Baby Shower Tips

Tips for Hosting a Baby Shower

\"\"

Baby showers provide mums-to-be with the perfect opportunity to enjoy much-deserved pampering at the hands of their friends and families. Planning a baby shower may seem like a daunting task, but with a bit of preparation and some help along the way, hosting your party will be nothing but fun!

Not only are baby showers an excellent way to fete a favourite new mummy, they are also a time-honoured rite of passage. Experts credit ladies of every era with the invention of the baby shower – from the ancient Romans to the post-World War II generation. But they agree on the baby shower’s ultimate purpose: to celebrate the mum-to-be.

The first step in planning a baby shower is to coordinate, together with the guest of honour, a time and date and write up the guest list. Most baby showers are held during the final trimester, though depending on the mum-to-be’s wishes, the party may be held earlier in the pregnancy or after the baby is born.

Once you’ve decided on your baby shower basics, create a checklist and timeline to keep track of tasks to complete before and during the party. If you need help creating a baby shower to-do list, contact our mumcierge.

Early on, decide if your baby shower will have a theme, such as ‘around the clock’ (gifts given are appropriate for certain times of day), nursery décor, or the ever-popular mummy-pampering party. If you do go with a gift-related theme, invitations should include clear explanations, in addition to basic information about date, time, location and an RSVP contact.

Send invitations about four weeks before the event, and use your original guest list to keep track of RSVPs (this list will be useful later, too, to keep track of gifts given at the baby shower).

Baby shower games are a bit of a controversial topic. While some mums-to-be prefer game-free parties, others revel in the spirit of competition. For game-loving mums, try simple games, such as baby product naming competitions and gift-guessing.

When it’s time to say goodbye, leave your guests with something simple and sweet. Candy-filled bottles, bootie-shaped cookies and pretty, flower-filled vases are always popular. Of course, we recommend a few of our popular cupcakes in a take-away box.

With a bit of planning, along with help from Cupcake’s expert mumcierge staff, hosting a fabulous baby shower is simple and fun. For information about hosting a baby shower at Cupcake, please contact mumcierge@cupcakemum.com or call us on 020 8875 1065.
